Homodiegesis

For my university final year project, I developed a technique of programmatic scoring called 'Homodiegetic Music'.

The technique involves the usage of thematically sourced musical material, be it themed foley, or harmonic/melodic elements sourced from within the subject of a composer's score.

This technique has, of course, been used by many composers but has never received a name until now.

My work in developing the theory received Falmouth University's highest grade in 6 Years, and I am continuing to use the technique for my compositions today.

A piece composed entirely from objects which regularly pollute our oceans. It depicts the approach of a great being, summoned as retribution for man's desecration of the deep.

Samples by
Rowell

I am proficient in KSP (Kontakt Script Processor), the programming language of Kontakt. I enjoy programming recorded samples into playable and sharable Kontakt Instruments, both personal samples and samples sent to me by fellow composers and SFX artists. These instruments feature fully interactive and responsive custom made Graphical User Interfaces.

The Steel Breeze

An instrument created from a set of bowed piano samples.

Assistant Work

For the last 6 months I have been fortunate enough to work along side acclaimed composer, Matthew Thomason.

My current responsibilities include:

- Score Prep

- Session Notation and Transposition

- Session Audio Setup

- Demo and Stem Prep

- Making a DGC (Damn Good Coffee)

These months have proved invaluable in the advancement of my career as both a solo composer, and as a professional creative.

Someone who understands the runnings and difficulties of the day to day for a fully booked composer.

I look forward to continuing my work for Matthew as he slowly approaches the premier of the up and coming tour for his Ballade "Arlodhes A Shalott".
